Teams from the Iowa Department of Education (DOE) conducted site visits to schools designated as needing comprehensive or extended comprehensive support according to Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) accountability index during the 2022-2023 school year and fall of 2023. Based on these visits, the DOE team composed a site visit report that included recommendations for improvement to be implemented in each school-s action plan with DOE support. The 142 recommendations from each of the site visit reports were analyzed to identify trends of the greatest needs across the schools. Based on the needs, the School Improvement Team and Learner Strategies and Supports Team are proposing to offer professional learning to provide targeted learning aligned to the implementation of the DOE recommendations. These sessions will be held regionally across the state in accordance with ESSA-s Differentiated Accountability and Supports System in the hopes that travel obstacles are reduced for district staff attending. Priority attendance will be for schools designated as needing comprehensive or extended comprehensive support.
