Elimination of sludge produced on the Bastia South depollution site The Pays Bastiais Water Authority currently has a sludge elimination platform located on the continent, which ensures the treatment of all the sludge produced on the Bastia South depollution site. However, the current system is subject to operating constraints which no longer guarantee the continuity of the public service. In fact, the transport of skips by sea is no longer ensured in areas conditions compatible with the normal operation of the Step due to the commissioning of two new vessels powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) which are not equipped to transport sludge skips. In fact, the weekly reduction of number of ship rotations has a strong impact on delivery conditions, including, in certain circumstances, a blockage of empty skips departing from the continent's main ports. Situation which jeopardizes at the local level the process of treatment of sludge and by implication the continuous operation of the treatment plant. Due to this recent development, the logistical constraints surrounding the transport of bins to continental composting platforms have become difficult to manage and call for a search for alternatives capable of guaranteeing the sustainability and efficiency of the sludge sector.
