Alan Earp Residence is a 2001 era five-storey building (with a basement) designed by Moriyama & Teshima, located on the east end of the Brock campus. It is a semi-suite style residence with two room (single or double) sharing an adjoining four-piece washroom. There are common spaces, study rooms, storage space and laundry facilities. A total of 255 students can be accommodated. The building is of non-combustible construction. The building is equipped with an addressable, single-stage fire alarm system (Simplex Model 4100), with the main Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP) located in the Basement Electrical Room (B01C). The system includes initiating devices such as heat detectors, smoke detectors, duct smoke detectors, and water flow detection devices. The existing fire alarm system is deemed obsolete following the end-of-life notice issued by the system manufacturer, with spare parts discontinued and no longer available on the market. This indicates that the current system cannot be reliably maintained and requires replacement. To bring the system up to current standards, the fire alarm system must be upgraded to a modern, supported platform.
