The Geothermal basin is located on the VITO sites (Balmatt site) between the Herentals-Bocholt canal and the Lagoon that flows into the Congovaart. It contains water that is slightly contaminated with mainly Ra-226, which is currently being injected back into it the subsurface [2]. The basin is dismantled after the injection. The dismantling takes place strictly in accordance with the action plan approved by the FANC. Deviations are not permitted unless prior written approval from the FANC and the contracting authority.
