The Coastal & Ocean Basin (COB) is located in the Maritime Research Center of the Flemish Government in Ostend (UGent Ostend Science Park). It is designed to study the effect of waves and currents on coastal structures and offshore/floating installations, such as the new energy island in the North Sea or nature-based solutions for erosion protection around the foundations of offshore wind turbines. The hydrodynamic and structural behavior of new technologies for renewable energy generation at sea is also investigated here (e.g. wave energy converters, floating solar panels at sea, floating wind turbines).
