The Region of Peel (herein referred to as the “Agency”) is seeking to retain a full-service architectural firm to undertake the design and contract administration for the redevelopment of the existing Wilkinson Shelter located at 15 Wilkinson Road in Brampton, Ontario.
The existing Wilkinson Shelter is an emergency shelter for homeless adult men with approximately 86 beds. The shelter building is 1-storey, approximately 1, 000 m2 (10, 800 ft2), originally built in 2001. The building is situated on the Wilkinson Shelter Site (the subject Site), which is rectangular in shape, with approximate area of 0.60 hectares (1.49 acres).
The Agency intends to replace the existing Wilkinson Shelter with a new emergency shelter for homeless adult men with up to 200 beds, to better meet the growing need in the community for Low barrier emergency shelter services and programs. The new Wilkinson Shelter will provide inclusive, safe and accessible spaces that will improve mental health and provide substance use support services to clients in a Low Barrier setting and enhance safety and privacy at this site. Low Barrier refers to, within a shelter context, minimal expectations or requirements are expected of people who wish to stay there.
