PFAS is used in many industrial processes and products due to the unique properties of the substances, such as water and fat rejection, friction-reducing and high temperature and chemical resistance. However, these properties at the same time make PFAS a serious environmental and health risk as they are persistent inNature and can accumulate in humans and animals. Since certain industries cannot immediately phase out PFAS, there is a need for partnerships where companies, authorities and experts can work together to identify general alternatives, technical solutions, minimize use and resulting emissions and secureResponsible handling. The partnerships must thus help identify applications, find solutions and cases with best-practice, and explore a practice of transitioning to a more PFAS-free production.
