The fire station in Paleisstraat in Antwerp dates from the early twentieth century and is protected as a monument. As the fire brigade will have a new location, it was decided to repurpose and restore the monument. The designer must pay attention to the heritage values as well as strong designrp capabilities. The designer must make a design that is of a design, restorative and material-technical quality and this is reversible where possible, with respect for the existing historical and valuable context. The programmatic research is part of the assignment.

The designer is faced with an exciting challenge to integrate the following aspects and preconditions into the design and to ensure its proper execution: architectural quality, handling the valuablee heritage, integrating new needs and requirements and sustainability, and this in an economically responsible manner., additional investigations (material-technical, stratigrafi(energy, energy audit, etc.).
The candidate must have professional rights as an architect in BELGIUM, in accordance with the Law of 20.2.1939 on the protection of the title and the profession of architect.
