About Concern Worldwide

We are Concern Worldwide. Maybe you-ve heard of us? If not: We have been working in some of the world-s poorest communities since 1968. That-s right - we-re 50. We-re celebrating that milestone a bit this year, but remaining laser-focused on our work. We-re needed now more than ever. And we are focused on making even greater impact, delivering more assistance faster, and helping change millions more lives.

Since its founding in 1968, Concern Worldwide has saved countless lives, relieved suffering and provided opportunities for a sustained better living standard for millions of people. We work primarily in the world-s poorest countries, and within those countries, we seek out the most vulnerable and overlooked. Concern implements emergency response programs, has been a leader in health and nutrition issues, and has been in the forefront of helping communities develop resilience to high-impact climate extremes. We also work in education, livelihoods and water and sanitation. Every day we are inspired by the legacy of Father Aengus Finucane, one of Concern-s founders, who called upon each of us to do as much as we can, as well as we can, for as long as we can, for as many as we can.

About the Project

Concern Worldwide US is looking for a skilled, independent training professional who can facilitate workshops on the International Humanitarian Coordination System. The workshops range from 1-3 days, approximately 5 times a year, and cover a range of topics focusing on the Cluster System and related subjects.

The “Building a Better Response: Strengthening Capacity for Coordination in Complex Humanitarian Emergencies” project aims to strengthen the capacity of national and international NGO personnel, as well as other humanitarian actors, to engage with the international humanitarian coordination system in a manner that improves overall coordination and response to the needs of affected populations. Funded by the US Agency for International Development, Office of US Foreign Disaster Assistance, the project is being implemented through a consortium that brings together a combination of operational and technical expertise, spearheaded by International Medical Corps in collaboration with Concern Worldwide and the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative.

To date, the Building a Better Response Project has produced a variety of learning tools, including an e-learning course http://www.buildingabetterresponse.org/ (available in Arabic, English, and French) and a series of workshops on the international humanitarian coordination system. Over 50 workshops have been held to date in numerous humanitarian contexts.

The workshops range from one to three days and take place in humanitarian contexts or hubs. The methodology of the workshops is highly participatory with a variety of learning techniques utilized including a simulation, group table top work, and lecture.

All logistics for the workshops will be handled by the BBR staff team (not the Facilitator) - including arrangements with the venue, recruiting and communicating with participants, etc.

· Generate a short report at the conclusion of each workshop (2-3 pages max).

In total the facilitator we be responsible for approximately 5 workshops averaging 7 days labor each workshop over 12 months. Timing, location, and dates we be determined in collaboration with the facilitator so flexibility and willingness to travel to challenging contexts is a must.
