Tenders are invited for Iraq: Consultancy - Trainer for Protection Team.

Programme Title: Meet critical needs and reduce the social and economic impact of the conflict on affected communities and individuals in Iraq.

Training Location: Erbil, Iraq

Expected Date(s) of Work: 10-27 June 2019 (4 days training, to be negotiated)

Brief Introduction:

From July 2018 - June 2019, Tearfund Iraq is implementing an OFDA-funded project with the following objective:

Strengthen resilience and enhance recovery and reintegration through improved access to protection awareness and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Services for communities and individuals affected by conflict and GBV related trauma.

This project is informed by Tearfund-s Middle East Response Strategy with the goal to alleviate the suffering of 200, 000 children, men, and women through emergency interventions and are supported towards stabilization, healing and recovery. The implementation process is integrated with other cross-cutting themes such as gender, child protection and environment from Tearfund-s 8 Quality Standards.

Assignment Objective:

In line with the described goal above, curricula and teaching tools for community-based mental health awareness sessions targeting both leaders and community members and for adult community well-being groups were created.

National staff have been working with these materials for the last six months and gaps in knowledge and skills are identified.

Assignment:

To support the Protection national staff with extra tools and knowledge regarding MHPSS.

Train staff on ToT for group facilitation skills: that staff are able to facilitate well-being groups and coach facilitators of the groups. Staff is able to adapt facilitation techniques to the audience (adult, adolescents, teachers, community leaders, parents, etc). Staff is able to communicate difficult topics and address stigmas.

Train Tearfund Protection staff on the topics of Tearfunds- Well-Being curriculum: mental health, trauma recovery, grief/loss, stress, helping distressed children, listening and communication skills, interpersonal relationships, psycho-social support outcomes and limitations.

Equip the current national staff on self-care, stress management and resilience skills

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:

Degree level qualification or equivalent in relief/ development, psychology/ sociology and/or staff management.

EXPERIENCE:

Training and group facilitation experience in the Middle East; through interpretation

Implementing MHPSS programming

Appropriate and relevant experience with international NGOs

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Good communicator via interpretation

Excellent interpersonal skills

Training and coaching skills

Report writing

Proven evaluation skills

Leadership skills

Consultant Ability: Desirable

EXPERIENCE:

Experience with training NGOs in Iraq

Experience in recovery/ post-conflict areas

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Ability to deliver training and materials in Arabic and/or Kurdish, with English reference materials

Anticipated Schedule

1 day preparation and evaluation report

2 days international travel

4 days training of national staff (7 hrs a day)

Total: 7 days maximum including a training report

MANAGEMENT OF VISIT

The training will be managed by Karla Jordan, Protection Advisor for Tearfund Iraq and Astrid Klomp, Protection Project Manager Dohuk/Ninewa.

EXPECTED OUTPUTS

Increased knowledge and skills set in national staff

Development of a staff care policy

Report about the training and gained outcomes.

REQUIRED INPUTS Appropriate time allocated by relevant Tearfund HQ and Iraq Programme staff to provide information to the consultant and facilitate the training.
