The Government of Laos has adopted a National strategy to develop the irrigation sector to increase food security, and reduce poverty and inequality in the Khammouane and Savannakhetprovinces.The GoL received support from the French Development Agency to rehabilitate and extend the irrigation scheme called Nam Kata, located in Boualapha district, Khammouane province.
The Department of Irrigation (DOI) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) is responsible of the overall project management and implementation.
Following the detailed design study conducted in 2019, the DOI of MAF will launch in February 2020 an open tender for the construction works of theNam Kata irrigation scheme. This facility should irrigate an estimated area of 300 ha in the wet season and 60 ha in the dry season. The construction works is expected to be carried out from September 2020 to May 2021. The works will consist of:
- Construction of a weir on the Nam Kata River;
- Construction of irrigation and drainage canals (primary, secondary and tertiary canals) and hydraulic structures to supply the agricultural land.
The construction company should demonstrate:
- Similar experience on construction works of irrigation schemes (weirs, canals, concrete and earthwork, hydraulic structures);
- Qualified human resources;
- Capacity to mobilize the necessary equipment;
- Financial capabilities;
- Experience and certification in Environmental, Social and Health management Systems (ESHS)
The Department of Irrigation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, hereby invites the company interests in delivering the Services described above participate to the Call for tender that will be published in Lao PDR newspapers and DG market website, in February 2020.
