The Flemish government - Nature and Forests Agency, together with the municipality of Pelt, owns an 18th century farm with outbuildings located in Pelt - Het Hobos 1. The farm is protected as a cultural-historical landscape. Conservation works on this farm are necessary to safeguard the building from further damage until the actual restoration work takes place. The estate has remained virtually unchanged over the past century and consists of a varied landscape of forests, meadows, orchards, ponds, wooded edges and an old building complex with a vegetable garden and park elements. Colored by the fascinating history of some striking former residents, the site is a household name in Pelt and the surrounding area. Since 2000, the Hobos has been registered as a protected cultural-historical landscape. The Hobos farm has been declared architectural heritage since 2018. Years of neglect and vacancy However, this has led to the buildings on the site being in serious disrepair. Major works are therefore necessary to maintain the buildings and subsequently open up the site within the 'Hoge Kempen' National Park.
