OPEN The subject of this Contract concerns the completion of the construction of the Nestorio dam and its accompanying works. The 75 m high dam on the Aliakmonas River, in Nestorio, Kastoria, is a rock-cast dam with an clay core, on the p. Aliakmona opposite the settlement of the same name and in the distance 2000 m. The dam will create an artificial lake with an area of ​​823 hectares. The net maximum height of the lake at the dam site is 58.5 m and the average depth of the lake is about 30 m, so the average height of the canyon exceeds 80m. The surface that will be flooded is 823 acres and a percentage of about 60% is the river bed. The auxiliary roads that will be built and the loan rooms for receiving materials after the end of the works will be restored. The average annual discharge of the river at the location of the dam is about 144.4 million cubic meters and the useful volume of the dam is 15.4 million cubic meters, the dam water will be renewed due to the large runoff 9.5 times a year and thus the fluctuation of the lake level will not exceed 10 meters on an annual basis is 19.12 million cubic meters, and the water quality due to the renewal will remain excellent. The irrigation will concern 75, 000 acres and will provide possibility to restructure dryland crops with new dynamics with an emphasis on legumes and horticulture.
