Coding service for the modernization of Pharo's graphics infrastructure
Published on: 2026-04-24 00:00:00 Deadline date and time for submission of envelopes: 2026-05-19 Purpose: The need consists of coding services, with multiple purposes. The work builds on a significant existing base: the FFI connections package for SDL3 (https://github.com/pharo-graphics/PharoSDL3) is being finalized, and the Spec-Toplo library (http://github.com/pharo-graphics/Spec-Toplo) already covers a large part of the widgets needed for the Pharo tools. The purpose of the service is to consolidate and complete this effort along three axes: (1) Finalization of the OSWindow-SDL3 backend as a definitive replacement for SDL2, then implementation of a Bloc host (http://github.com/pharo-graphics/Bloc) using the SDL3 GPU API for rendering hardware accelerated (shadows, blurs, high pixel density, 4K); (2) Replacement of the Album text editor with a native Block component, with support for large documents, Unicode graphemes and typographic formatting via HarfBuzz; support for smart characters and completion (3) Completed Spec-Toplo widgets covering common Pharo tools, allowing removal of Morphic from the default image. All of the achievements will be covered by tests and can be deployed industrially after validation.
