The North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority (NBMCA) is initiating the development of updated floodplain mapping for the Centennial Creek subwatershed, incorporating hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for the 1:2 to 1:100-year flood events, the Timmins Regional Storm, and climate-change scenarios represented by the 200- and 350-year events. The project will be completed in accordance with the requirements of the Flood Hazard Identification and Mapping Program (FHIMP). Work is scheduled to commence in mid-January and conclude by the end of October, with key deliverables including updated flood hazard maps, technical modelling, and supporting documentation.
NBMCA is continuing its ongoing program to update floodplain mapping across its jurisdiction. Several subwatersheds have already been completed in recent years, and the next phase focuses on the Centennial Creek subwatershed (see Map M-1: Project Extents). This work is being undertaken through funding provided by the Flood Hazard Identification and Mapping Program (FHIMP) and local municipalities. Additional subwatersheds will be mapped in future years, subject to available funding.
The Centennial Creek subwatershed is a small drainage basin that originates in the Municipality of East Ferris and flows through the Municipality of Callander before discharging into Callander Bay on Lake Nipissing. The basin covers an area of approximately 2.5 km². The lower reaches of the main branch flow through residential and commercial areas, with several portions of the channel having been modified or engineered. The upper reaches drain a mix of rural residential properties, forests, and wetlands, and are intersected by multiple transportation corridors.
