The Darkwoods Forest Carbon Project in interior BC was established in 2008 as Canada-s first voluntary carbon project. In 2022, NCC-s portfolio expanded with the acquisition of the Boreal Wildlands property in northern Ontario, which remains the largest private land conservation area in Canadian history. Together, the Boreal Wildlands and Darkwoods projects span over 200, 000 ha of critical habitat permanently protected by NCC and registered under Verra-s Verified Carbon Standard with additional co-benefits certified under the Climate, Community and Biodiversity Standard (CCB) and Sustainable Development Verified Impact Standard (SD VISta).More recently, NCC announced plans to acquire the Taiga Forest Carbon Project, an 82, 000 ha property south of Kapuskasing, Ontario that is registered as the first Improved Forest Management (IFM) project under Canada's Greenhouse Gas Offset Credit System.NCC is now the project proponent of a diverse portfolio of IFM projects, providing critical funding to support the organization-s broader mission.
