The reason for this is that the iVRI is the new standard and the iVRI facilitates nationally specific target groups, such as prioritizing emergency and emergency services (including road inspectors), logistics and cyclists. In recent years, RWS has replaced or converted 19 VRIs into iVRI in the first tranche. The experiences with these first iVRIs is that they can be of added value in achieving the policy goals aimed at optimizing traffic flow and prioritizing specific target groups as described above. The assignment concerns the supply, implementation and management of CITS applications (Cooperative Intelligent Transportation Systems) for iVRIs (intelligent traffic control installations).
