Disposable waste workers in developing countries contribute significantly to the commitment to the pollution of plastic. GRID-Arendal has, in collaboration with strategic partners, developed a unique, geographically adapted capacity building tool titled Awareness & Capacity Building of Women in the Informal Recycling Sector. Toolkit for Facilitators". This innovative tool, with its distinctive features developed to promote fair restructuring for women in the long-range recycling sector, offers unprecedented options for awareness, strengthening and capacity development. GRID-Arendal is planning, with support from GIZ, to test the tool in Kenya, focusing on women in the public plastic recovery sector. For this pilot project, Awareness and Capacity Building of Women in the Informal Recycling Sector: Pilot Implementation of a Toolkit in Kenya, GRID-Arendal will collaborate with local partners, including Kisumu Waste Pickers Welfare Association, to carry out virtual training of local trainers in business development, capacity building, raising awareness and strengthening women in the world-class recycling sector.
