Initial situation The municipality of Ittigen planned to develop the central “Zentrum Rain” area, which had existed since the 1970s and was originally designed for 20, 000 residents. A master plan from 2013 focused on the Improvement of the outdoor spaces, with some measures already implemented. In 2020, a new kindergarten was built and the local council decided to build a meeting area instead of a parking lot. The renovation of the triple sports hall and the multi-purpose building was rejected in favor of a new building due to its poor condition. A holistic “Rain” master plan was then created to ensure optimal long-term use of the area. A single-stage was used for this purpose Project competition was held for the new construction of the sports and leisure facilities, which called for innovative, sustainable concepts. The winning project from LEISMANN AG now serves as the basis for further planning and implementation. Objective The facility in Ittigen lies on a terraced high plateau and is characterized by loosely distributed solitary buildings and a fragmentary avenue. To strengthen the main square, a two-story building was integrated into the existing one as a new central point Triple gymnasium was installed.
