Tender Details

Tenders are invited for BiH Conduct qualitative data collection activities to map gender norms and determinants

The selected firm will be responsible for conducting qualitative data collection activities with women in different locations throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina to contribute to two research focus areas; (A) a diagnostic of barriers women face to participate in the labor market and enter employment in Bosnia and Herzegovina and (B) a Gender Impact Assessment (GIA) in coal communities covering the gendered impacts of coal mine closure and “just transition” in BiH coal regions. The sample will differ for each of the two focus areas (denoted sample A and sample B; as described below. The interview guide will be similar for both samples; but with selected questions added to sample B relevant to coal communities. The assessment is expected to be conducted through focus groups discussions (FGD) with the target groups described below. In particular; the FGDs will cover the following dimensions: structural and behavioral challenges that might disincentivize or prevent job search or limit access to desirable jobs; including stereotypes; social norms; reservation wages; childcare and elderly care norms and challenges (availability of service; cost; perception / trust in the service; social norms; role of parent; spouses and communities- expectations in shaping aspirations (especially for young women); job search strategies (channel used; call back rates; perception on which channels are the most effective); and barriers and constraints in the job search process and in the hiring process for those actively looking for a job; perception of public and private providers of employment services; work aspirations (formality; stability; security; wage employment versus self-employment; barriers faced to start an independent activity; access to start-up capital). The interview guide could differ by target group depending on the relevance of some of the questions. For sample B; the FGDs will also explore dimensions related to coal mining activities and coal-dependent communities; to understand the degree to which gender perceptions and attitudes are specific to the coal sector or extend more broadly. The FGD Sample described below comprises a mix of target groups (however FGDs should be conducted separately by target groups; as indicated in below proposed tables). The sample size per FGD is expected to be between 8 and 15. At least 8 people need to confirm and participate in the FGD to consider it valid. At least 36 FGDs are expected to be conducted in total (including focus areas A and B).Please find attached TOR for detail
