The East Flanders Provincial Council wishes to appoint a type 2 soil remediation expert in the context of waterbed research in Molenbeek, Vloedbeek and Lievensbeek in Ronse. The city of Ronse has a rich industrial history. Many companies, including textile factories are or were located along the Molenbeek, which poses a problem with possible pollution of the Molenbeek. OVAM started a historical study in 2018 with attention to non-classical parameters, such as PFAS and brominated flame retardants. The Flemish Government has currently appointed the Province of East Flanders, in its responsibility as watercourse manager, to carry out a waterbed survey for the Molenbeek, the Vloedbeek and the Lievensbeek in Ronse (Soil Decree, article 124). Given the extent of the potential contamination in Ronse, the focus of the waterbed research should be on zones where there is a relationship with watercourse management. This must be focused on sediment in the Molenbeek itself, the controlled flood areas, locations where clearing spoil was deposited in the past and areas that have been (frequently) flooded in the past. A map has been added to these specifications with: clear demarcation of the zones where there is a relationship with watercourse management.
