With this study we wish to (1) Gain a clear overview of the ownership status and management of subsurface data and physical samples, both historical and current. (2) Have an analysis made of (the implementation of) the current legislative framework in practice and detect what needs for expansion/adaptation there may still be. (3) Investigate which (types of) subsurface data can or cannot (and under what conditions) be included under the exception principles of the law of openness of management and how to deal with it when creating, reworking, possibly sharing with third parties, publishing and archiving (reworked) data with their derivative products......
