24-MONTIGNAC-Lascaux Cave-Research program
Published on: 2026-07-31 00:00:00 Deadline date and time for submission of envelopes: 2026-09-11 Subject: Inside the Lascaux cave, the Apse is a sector that is both complex and crucial for understanding the phenomena likely to affect the preservation of walls and parietal works. Indeed, located in the middle part of a descending gallery and connected to a lower floor, its climatic parameters (temperature, CO2, etc.) are subject to cross-influences. She is also the space where biological evolutions are apparent. Following previous research programs which focused on the knowledge of climatic dynamics on the one hand, and the characterization of microbial communities on the other hand, both on the scale of the entire cavity, the new research program will aim to integrate these different aspects by focusing on the interactions between biotic and abiotic factors. In response to the expectations of this program, which call for a high spatial resolution in order to capture processes whose field of action and variability can be expressed on a very small scale, but also to the constraints of access time to the cavity (less than 200 man hours per year, taking into account all of the speakers), the Apse was chosen as the implementation framework. The four-year program will consist of six areas of study which will draw on a broad spectrum of skills, placing interdisciplin...
