Slovenia is officially known as the Republic of Slovenia. It is a nation state located in southern Central Europe and situated at the crossroads of main European cultural as well as trade routes. The country is bordered to its west by Italy, Austria on the north and Croatia on the southeast and south along with Hungary to the northeast and the Adriatic Sea on the southwest. The country covers around 20,273 square kilometers and has got a total population of 2.05 million.Slovenia is a parliamentary republicand is also a member of the European Union, United Nations and NATO. Ljubljana is the largest as well as capital of the country. The territory of the country is mainly mountainous and has got a mainly continental climate with the exception of the Slovene Littoral which has a sub-Mediterranean climate. The north-western area of the country has an Alpine climate. Slovenia has got a significant biological diversity and is one of the most water-rich in Europe and also has a dense river network and significant karst underground watercourses. Half of the territory of the country is covered by forest human settlement of Slovenia is uneven and dispersed. The majority of the population of the country speaks Slovene. Some of the most prominent languages include Slavic, Hungarian, Germanic and Romance. Slovenia is known to be largely secularized country but its identity and culture have been significantly influenced by Lutheranism as well as Catholicism. The economy of this country is open, small and export-oriented. The economy of the country has also been strongly influenced by international conditions. The economy has been severely hurt by the Eurozone crisis which started during the late 2000s. The most important economic field of the country includes services which are then followed by construction and industry. Slovenia has got a developed economy and in terms of per capita, and the second richest out of all the Slavic countries. Slovenia was the very first new member that introduced the euro as its currency, replacing the existing currency Tolar. Since 2010, the country has been the member of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development. There is a huge difference in terms of prosperity between the different regions. The most prosperous regions, economically is the Central Slovenia region that includes the western Slovenian regions and capital Ljubljana. In the years 2004-2006, the economy of the country has grown on an average by nearly 5% a year.
