Estonia is officially known as situated in the Baltic region of Northern Europe. The country shares its bordersby the Gulf of Finland to the north, Baltic Sea to the west, Latvia to the south by Latvia by Russia and Lake Peipus to its east. Across the Baltic Sea lies Finland in the north and Sweden in the west. The land covered by Estonia is estimated approximately around 45,227 square kilometers. The country is known for its humid continental climate. The country is a democratic parliamentary republic which is further divided into fifteen counties. The largest city and the capital of Estonia is Tallinn. The country has a population of 1.3 million and considered one of the least-populous member states of the European Union, the North North Atlantic Treaty Organization and the Schengen Area along with the Eurozone. The people living in Estonian are known as Finnic people and their official language is a Finno-Ugric language which is considered to be closely related to distantly to Hungarian along with the Sami and Finnish Sami languages.Estonia has a high income as well as advanced economy. Being a developed country, Estonia offers its people a high standard of living. The country ranks quite high in the Human Development Index and is also a member of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development. The country is known to perform favourably in terms of education, press freedom, civil liberties, economic freedom and education. As of 2012, the country was ranked third in the world in terms of Press Freedom. According to the International Monetary Fund, the gross domestic product per capita as of 2013 in PPP was estimated to be around $23,144 dollars. In 2011 the country was ranked 11th in the Index of Economic Freedom. In entire Europe, this country is known to have the fourth freest economy. The country is known to produce seventy five percent of the electricity that it consumes. It imports petroleum products and is mainly influenced by its three trade partners namely Germany, Sweden and Finland. Estonia was basically an agricultural country before World War II. It used to be known in the European markets mainly for the products like cheese, butter and milk. Since the country re-established its independence, it has styled itself in such a way that it has ended up becoming a gateway between the East and the West along with pursuing economic reforms and integration with the West, quite aggressively.
