Republic of the Union of Myanmar was known as Burma. Myanmar is the shortened and commonly used name. Myanmar. It is a sovereign state which is located in Southeast Asia and is bordered by India, Bangladesh, China, Thailand and Laos. One-third of the total perimeter of 1,930 km of this country forms an uninterrupted coastline along the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea. Burmas recent census revealed, however a much lower population than expected and is believed to have only 51 million people recorded. Burma is 676,578 square kilometers in size its capital city is Naypyidaw. The largest city is Yangon. Early civilizations in this country included the Pyu who used to speak Tibeto-Burman and inhabited Upper Burma and the Mon in Lower Burma. In the 16th century when Burma was reunified by the Taungoo Dynasty, the country was known to be the largest empire in the history of Southeast Asia but for a brief period of time. The early 19th century Konbaung Dynasty ruled over an area that included modern Burma and controlled Manipur as well as Assam shortly as well. The British conquered Burma in the 19th century and then the country became a British colony. Burma became an independent nation in the year 1948 as a democratic nation. Burma is a country which is believed to have rich sources in jade and gems along with natural gas, oil, and other mineral resources. As of 2013, the GDP of the country stood at $56.7 billion US dollars and in terms of PPP, its GDP was estimated to be at $221.5 billion US dollars. The income gap in this country is considered to be among the widest in the world. Also, a large proportion of the economy is believed to be controlled by the supporters of the former military government. As of 2013 and as per the Human Development Index, Burma had a low level of human development and was ranked 150 out of 187 countries. Myanmar is known to be one of the poorest countries in Southeast Asia as it has been suffering from decades of isolation, stagnation and mismanagement. The modern technology sector also lacks skilled labourers which as a result hinders Buras economy. There is a lack of proper infrastructure in this country as well. The national currency of the country is Kyat. In the years 2010–2011, Bangladesh exported products worth $9.65 million to Myanmar and Myanmar imported goods worth of $179 million
