Israel is a country in Western Asia which is located in the southeastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea. Israel shares its land borders with Syria to its northeast, Lebanon to the north, Jordan on the east along with the Palestinian territories that comprise the Gaza Strip and West Bank to the west and east respectively. The country is bordered byEgypt to the southwest and in the south, by the Gulf of Aqaba in the Red Sea. The country is made up of geographically diverse features within the relatively small area it has. The financial center of the country is known as Tel Aviv. Jerusalem is the most populous individual city that is under government’s administration of the country as well as the designated capital of the country. In the year 1947, the United Nations General Assembly specified the borders that created two different states for Arab and the Jewish and led to implementation of the Partition Plan for Mandatory Palestine. The plan proposed by the UN also specified an area of Jerusalem along with its environs to be administered by the UN under an international regime. Since then Israel has fought numerous wars with neighboring Arab states. With time, the military forces of the country managed to occupy west bank, Sinai Peninsula, a part of South Lebanon along with Gaza and East Jerusalem. Peace treaties with Jordan and Egypt were successfully signed and maintained but the tension between Gaza and Israel still continues. As of the year 2014, the population of Israel, as per the Israel Central Bureau of Statistics, was estimated to be 8,146,300 people. It is the also the only Jewish-majority state in the world in which 74.9 percent of the total Israelis are Jewish. As per the basic laws, the country identifies itself as the Jewish and Democratic State and is a representative democracy that has a parliamentary system universal, suffrage and proportional representation. Israel is known to be the most advanced country in terms of economic as well as industrial development in not just the Middle East but in Southwest Asia as well. The establishment of a highly motivated and educated populace in the country along with its quality university education is responsible to a great extent for helping the technology of the country boom and result in rapid economic development. Israel also has the second-largest number of startup companies in the entire world. As of 2010, it was ranked 17th among the most economically developed nations in the world.
