Indonesia is officially known as the Republic of Indonesia and is a sovereign state which is located in Southeast Asia.Indonesia is an archipelago comprising thousands of islands. With an estimated total population of over 252 million people, Indonesia is the world's fourth-most-populous country. Indonesia's republican form of government is comprised of a president along with an elected legislature. The country encompasses 34 provinces out of which five provinces have Special Administrative status. Jakarta is the capital of the nation and the country shares its land borders with Malaysia, Papua New Guinea and East Timor. Some of the other neighbouring countries are Australia, Singapore, the Philippines along with the Indian territory of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Since the 7th century, the Indonesian archipelago has been an important trade region. The rulers who were ruling the country then gradually absorbed foreign cultural along with political and religious models after which the Hindu and Buddhist kingdoms flourished. The history of the country has been influenced by foreign powers that were drawn to the abundance of its natural resources. Indonesia followed three and a half centuries of Dutch colonialism and finally got its independence after the World War II. The history of Indonesia has been ever changing and it faced several challenged such as natural disasters, rapid economic change, corruption, etc. Indonesia comprises of several distinct native ethnic as well as linguistic groups. The motto of the country is “unity in diversity” as the diverse culture shapes the country to a great extent. The nation is defined by religious pluralism within a majority of Muslim population along with a national language and ethnic diversity. The economy of Indonesia is mixed in which both the government as well as private sectors play significant roles. Indonesia has the largest economy in Southeast Asia and its estimated gross domestic product recorded as of 2012 was 928.274 billion US dollars and in terms of GDP in PPP, it was estimated to be $4,943 US dollars. Agriculture had been the largest employer of this country for ages but since the year 2012, the agricultural sector has taken a back seat and the service sector is believed to employ more people than any other sectors which accounts for 48.9 percent of the total labour force. Agriculture comprises of 38.6% and industry constitutes about 22.2% of the total labour force of the country. As of 2010 and on the basis of the World Trade Organization data, Indonesia was the 27th biggest exporting country in the entire world.
