Bahrain is an island country which is also known as the Kingdom of Bahrain. It is an archipelago of 33 islands. The country is home to 1,343,000 people with its capital at Manama. It is also the largest city of the country. Bahrain is one of the oldest among all countries to convert into Islam, way back in 628 AD. Bahrain gained its independence in the year 1971. It consists of 13 major provinces. It has a Unitary parliamentary constitutional monarchy and the ruler or the King of Bahrain is Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. But since 2011, Shia population continuously demonstrated unrest and sustained protests under the influence of the regional group of Arab Spring. There are vast reserves of oil and natural gas and off shore waters. These are the major natural resources of the country. Amongst all the Islamic states, Bahrain has the fastest growing economy according to the reports by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission of Western India. It has an open economy. But all throughout, the economy of the country was affected whenever there was a fluctuation in the oil price. Due to its modern and highly developed transport and communication facilities, Bahrain has developed many multinational firms and many industries. Large amount of petroleum products made from petroleum crude oil comprises the major portion of the export in the country. The country also produces a modest amount of aluminium as well. But only 2.9% of the land is suitable for agriculture. Due to poor agricultural development, the country is largely dependent upon the imports from the other countries. Meat is imported from Australia and major amount of fruits are usually imported from other countries. The annual GDP (PPP) is estimated around 33.5353 billion USD with per capita income of $ 28,559. The annual GDP (nominal) is approximately 28.728 billion USD with a per capita income of $24,465. But unemployment is a major hindrance towards the growth of the economy and the major part of the population which is affected is the youth. With fast depletion of the oil reserve and the underground water, Bahrain may face difficult economic situation in the future. Since it is still a growing country, Bahrain looks forward to economic development in other areas as well, like the health and education, housing and electricity, water and more developed roads and communication for a better and a more stable economic growth in the future.
