Afghanistan is the 41st largest country in the world, with a population of 31 million. It is officially known as the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. The country basically is a dry land and mountainous. The water system is generally based on seasonal rivers and reservoirs. Most of the time the lands are dry. Afghanistan is divided into 34 provinces, and each province is further divided into 398 smaller provincial districts. The capital of Afghanistan is Kabul. The history of Afghanistan dates back to the middle Paleolithic era. This country has been a part of the Achaemenid Empire, Mauryan Empire, Macedonian Empire and later, Islamic Empire. The country has witnessed many upheavals of different powers over the time. Recently in 2011, after the death of Osama Bin Laden, the internal wars intensified and many Afghan personnel were assassinated. Following the Presidential election in 2014, Ashraf Ghani was elected the President. The US war in Afghanistan officially ended on 28 December 2014. The economy of Afghanistan is very poor due continuous wars and lack of foreign investments. Since 2002, there has been an economical upsurge due investments of billions of dollars from various international investments. The country’s GDP was 45.3 billion USD with an exchange rate of $20.65 billion. The GDP per capita was $1,100. The unemployment rate is around 35% and approximately the same rate of people live under the poverty line as well. But since then, the economical situation has been on the rise for 10% per year. The main backbone of the economical growth in Afghanistan is due to the improvement of transportation system and agricultural production. The country produces the finest quality of pomegranate, melons, apricots, grapes and a large quantity of fresh and dry fruits and nuts. Opium is produced in large scale, which contributes up to 11% of the country’s economic growth. Afghanistan is considered the largest manufacturer of opium in the world. The return of the 5 million expatriates is the main reason behind the upsurge of the economical growth of the country. They brought in the much needed wealth-creating skill, funds and entrepreneurship to start up new business sectors. In the field of mining, the nation generates up to 10 billion USD from its mining deposits. It has got a huge deposit of iron ore, gold, coal, copper and lithium. The country is gradually developing on its economical growth and in the coming years it strives to be less dependent on the imports from the neighboring countries and increase their own productivity and employments through new business ventures.
