Morocco is officially known as the Kingdom of Morocco and is a country that is located in the Maghreb region of North Africa. Geographically, Morocco is also characterized by a rugged mountainous interior along with a large portion of desert. It is one of the only three countries among France and Spain to have both Mediterranean as well as Atlantic coastlines. The population of Morocco is estimated to be over 33.8 million and covers an area of 446,550 square kilometers. Rabat is the political capital of the country and the largest city is known by the name of Casablanca. Being an important regional power, historically, Morocco has a history of independence. Also its distinct culture is a perfect blend of Arab, Berber, Sub-Saharan African along with European influences. The non-self-governing territory of Western Sahara was claimed by Morocco as its Southern Provinces. It is a constitutional monarchy and has an elected parliament. The King of Morocco holds immense legislative as well as executive powers, especially over the military, religious affairs and foreign policy. Executive power is solely exercised by the government of the country but the legislative powers are vested in both the government as well as the two chambers of parliament such as the Assembly of Representatives and the Assembly of Councillors. Predominant religion of the country is Islam. However, the official languages are Berber and Arabic. Moroccan Arabic which is referred to as Darija along with French are also widely spoken in Moroccon Territories. The economy of this country is considered to be a relatively liberal economy which is governed by the law of demand and supply. Morocco is considered to be the fifth African economy by GDP in terms of PPP. The country has started playing a significant role in the African economic affairs. Government reforms along with steady yearly growth in the region of 4–5% from the time period of 2000 to 2ll007, including 4.9% year-on-year growth between the years 2003–2007 helped the Moroccan economy to become much more robust compared to what it was a few years ago. For 2012, the World Bank forecasted a rate of 4% growth for the economy and 4.2% for the next year which is 2013. The services sector of the country comprises for just over half of GDP and industry which is made up of mining, manufacturing and construction is an additional quarter. The industries that recorded the highest growth include tourism, telecoms, textile and information technology.
