Ethiopia is officially known as the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. It is situated in the Horn of Africa and bordered by several countries such as Eritrea to the north and northeast, Sudan and South Sudan to the west, Djibouti and Somalia to the east and Kenya to the south. Ethiopia is considered the most populous landlocked country in the world with 90 million population. It is also the second-most populated nation on the African continent. The country covers a total area of 1,100,000 square kilometers. Addis Ababa is the capital of Ethiopia and is also the largest city. Ethiopia is a multilingual nation has around 80 ethno-linguistic groups. The two largest ethno- linguistic groups are the Amhara and Oromo. Most people speak Afro-Asiatic languages in the country. Ethiopia is known to be the origin of the coffee bean; it has got fertile land in the West, numerous rivers, jungles, and numerous rivers. Ethiopia,in Africa has the most UNESCO World Heritage Sites.One third of the population adheres to Islam and slight majority of the population follow Christianity. The country is one of the founding members of the UN along with the Organization of African Unity and Non-Aligned Movement, G-77. Nile is known to be the longest river on earthand Ethiopia is the main source of the Nile. The country has begun to recover in the recent years and recovered from the famine and currently has the largest economy (by GDP) in Central Africa and East Africa. Ethiopia has the 46th most powerful military according to Global Fire Power, in the world. According to the International Monetary Fund, Ethiopia has one of the fastest growing economies in the entire world. Between the years 2004 to 2009, the country has recorded an economic growth of 10 percent. Ethiopia is the only fastest growing economy in Africa for the years 2007 and 2008 that is not dependent on oil. But in spite of being the fastest growing economy, the GDP per capita of the country is one of the poorest and lowest in the world. The economy of the country also faces structural problems. Frequent droughts are still very much predominant in the country and the agriculture productivity is also quite low. Agriculture of the country accounts for 80 percent of labour force as well as exports and 41 percent of the Gross Domestic Product. In the financial years 2009-10, the total worth of the exports of the country was estimated to be 1.4 billion US Dollars.
