This central African country is border to its west by Nigeria, Central African Republic to its east and Chad to the northeast along with Republic of the Congo, Gabon and Equatorial Genuine to its South. For its cultural and geological diversity, the country is often referred to as “Africa in miniature”. Not just mountains and beaches, this country is rice in a wide variety of natural features such as rainforest, savannas and deserts. The country is believed to be the home of 200 different linguistic groups. Along with its successful football team, Cameroon is also known for its native styles of music. English and French are considered the official languages of this country. Cameroon became a German colony in the year 1884 but the territory was divided between Britain and France as League of Nation Mandates. The political party of the Cameroon demanded independence but was outlawed by the French which resulted into a war that lasted for several years between the two parties resulting in the independence of the French administered part of Cameroon. Then the southern part of the British Cameroon was also merged with the rest which led to the formation of Federal Republic of Cameroon in the year 1984. Due to the stability, the country enjoys politically and socially has contributed and helped immensely in the development of roads, railways, agriculture and timber or petroleum industries. The per capita GDP in PPP of Cameroon was measured 2,300 USD in the year 2008 which was the ten-highest in sub-Saharan Africa. Some of the major export markets included Italy, France, Spain, South Korea and United Kingdom. The country has a background of strong economic performance with GDP growing at the rate of 4 percent with each passing year. 70 percent of the agriculture and the population farms constituted approximately 19.8 percent of the GDP in the year 2009. The government has taken measures to make sure that the tourism of the country contributes largely in the economic growth of the country. The climate as well as the soil present on the coast encourages the growth of several agrarian activities such as cultivation of banana, rubber, tea, cocoa, etc. The timber reserves present in the southern rainforest comprise of the 37 percent of the overall area of the country. Factory based industries in Cameroon accounted for 29.7 percent of the GDP in the year 2009. Foreign owned firms handle logging which has provided the government of Cameroon with 60 million US dollars, yearly till the year 1998.
