Tender Details

Expression of Interest are invited for The Sustainability of Access to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (Wash) Services of the Integrated Health Program (Usaidihp).

The activities of the WASH component are included in the Intermediate Outcomes (IR) below:
IR 2.6: Improved basic infrastructure and equipment to ensure quality services
IR 3.1: Increased practice of priority healthy behaviors at the individual, household and community levels

Activity 1: Rehabilitation/renovation of WASH facilities

The program plans to rehabilitate water points and family sanitary latrines and handwashing points in targeted HZ communities (See details in Annex 1).

Activity 2: Training Management and Maintenance Structures

This is to contribute to training activities during implementation. This activity will only focus on the technical component. It will be conducted directly on the scene of the operations of the different target groups, and will make adaptations on the job. This activity will be organized and conducted by the ZS supervision teams and community animators with support from the central, regional and provincial (DPS) levels.

Activity 3: Implementation of the Community Empowerment Process

This activity is the basis of the success of the WASH component, as it directly affects the sustainability of the systems. The expected outcome of this process is to have functional, reliable, viable, independent and interdependent management structures in communities that operate as partners or owners, and not as beneficiaries.

1.3. The issue of sustainability of WASH services

In the DRC, as elsewhere, the sustainability of services remains a major challenge in the WASH sector. Hence the need to promote sustainable approaches and the importance of adopting solutions proposed by, and for communities as key actors of their development. It is important for WASH projects to prioritize a bottom-up approach starting with communities, and integrating their views into the design and implementation of services.
