Description: The current preliminary design of the Compass tokamak support structure assumes a total weight of this support structure of about 200 tons, consisting of 32 main components made of machined stainless steel, weighing from 1 to 8 tons and whose dimensions are specified below. They are also part of the current preliminary design of components weighing tens of kilograms, they are vertical ribs (64 pcs), horizontal ribs (96 pcs) and main connecting screws (64 pcs); The design also includes hundreds of small components weighing in kilograms.

Most components will be machined to normal tolerances and AISI 304 stainless steel or its equivalent with a guaranteed yield strength of 250 MPa at 22 oC with a coefficient of thermal expansion close to 17x10-6 / K was chosen as the main material of the supporting structure. Inconel 625, C10200 copper, Sklotextit G10 or its equivalent are used as additional materials for some components. ...
