Description:
UNICEF is requesting Expressions of Interest from eligible suppliers in preparation for a solicitation exercise for Emergency Food Rations, which will be released in April/May 2018.

Description: of Product:

The product must comply with the composition as described in the UNICEF specification for Emergency Food Rations. These are ready-to-eat fortified and cereal based dry compressed food, 1 carton with 24 units of 500g supplies 24 daily Emergency Food rations for adults. Each bar of around 50 grams provides approximately 250kcal/1047kJ. The product is to be eaten directly; or, as a porridge prepared by adding small amount of boiling water. Packaging should be robust enough to withstand airdrop delivery. Shelf life requirement is 5 years.

Product Uses:

Emergency Food rations are used in emergency scenarios, such as the following:

1. Quick on-set, natural or man-made disasters and before local foods can be prepared and/or distributed.

2. For use in Food Air-drops

3. Disaster preparedness/storage.

4. Supplementary feeding programmes (short term)

Other scenarios

As a food supplement for prevention/treatment of moderate malnutrition.

As a temporary measure for supplementary feeding when super cereals (Corn Soya Blends) are not available.

Description: of Quality Requirements:

Suppliers with certification of their Quality Management System in conformity with at least one of the following standards are preferred:
ISO 22000:2005 Food safety Management Systems
ISO 22004:2005 Guidance on the Application of ISO 22000:2005
ISO 9001:2000

The objective is to establish Long-Term Arrangements (LTA) with two suppliers for this product. LTA duration is 24 months, with the possibility of a further extension of 12 months. 30, 000 packs of 24 x 500g supplies each are expected for a 24-month period.
