Position Summary:

MSI seeks short-term translators to support field research for an assessment of customary legal structures in Tahoua and Tillaberi. The assessment will contribute to the design of programming to support access to justice in areas exposed to violent extremism in Niger. This assessment is being funded by USAID West Africa Peace Assessment, Learning and Adapting (PELA) Activity. The purpose of this activity is to support USAID / West Africa to be more effective, efficient and adaptable operating unit in the development of non-violent conflict management in West Africa.

Tamasheq and / or Arabic, as needed. This is a 14-day consultancy beginning on May 1, 2019, contingent on USAID funding.

Responsibilities:

Ensure that translations are requested in terminology, syntax, and style.
Conduct consecutive and simultaneous translation during meetings and data collection, ensuring that interpretation is technically accurate.
Produce high quality work under deadlines.
Conducting tasks, as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications:

Oral and written fluency in French is required.
Oral fluency in Hausa and Zarma is required.

Fluent in Tamasheq and / or Arabic is required.

Conversational proficiency in English is required.

The translator will provide accurate translation for requested documents and also verbal interpretation in tamasheq or Arabic, as required. This is a 14-day board beginning May 1, 2019. This position is dependent on USAID funding.
