Description : 1. BACKGROUND
In the Division of Pacific Technical Support (DPS), the Pacific Noncommunicable Diseases (NCD) and Health through the Life Course (PNH) assists the Pacific island Ministries of Health with the implementation of health promotion interventions. This includes a focus on settings-based approaches, with a particular emphasis on schools. In Tonga, the Health Promoting Schools programme has been underway for a number of years, under the leadership of the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education and Training.

2. PURPOSE/SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE OF THE ACTIVITY
A consultant will be recruited to support the implementation of a Health Promoting Schools strengthening project in Tonga, which intends to increase the coverage and impact of Health Promoting schools through the development of HPS guidelines and specifications.
3. DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITIES TO BE CARRIED OUT
To Coordinate activities for HPS between Ministry of Education and Training and Ministry of Health;
Support Health Promoting School Committee
Undertake a brief review of the current programme and its strengths and weaknesses
Support the development, through consultation of a well defined HPS system including assessment methods
Support the conduct of baseline assessments of at least 20 schools and their students;
Assist with the analysis and interpretation of the baseline assessments, and develop summary reports for each school
Support at least the 20 schools...
