BackgroundThe Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, with the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), presented to the Global Environment Facility: GEF / GEF the Project "Integrating the Conservation of Biodiversity and Sustainable Management of the Earth in production practices in all bioregions and biomes in Paraguay ", which was approved in December 2013. The objective of the project is to protect the biodiversity and functions of the Upper Paran Atlantic Forest eco-region against the existing and emerging threats of multisectoral production practices, becoming a model to be replicated throughout the country's eco-regions. This is intended to achievethree results: 1) Effective governance framework for the conservation of biodiversity and sustainable management of land in multiple use landscapes, 2) Framework of financial incentives and market promote biodiversity and sustainable land management within priority areas of multiple-use landscape, 3) Strengthened implementation of the systemsubject of legal reserves and sustainable production practices. Considering the objective of the project, which seeks to conserve the most representative forest remnants of the BAAPA, it is intended to work with the communities in the buffer zones of the parks or reserves of the department of Caazap, that somehow preserve the rich biodiversityad of the mentioned eco-region. The work that must be done with these communities will aim to generate collective and individual awareness about the importance of forest conservation, as well as promote the generation of economic income through sustainable production and incorporation of income items that allow compliance with this objective. This Finally, it will reduce the pressure of the local population on the remaining forests.
