Tender Details

Guinea is about to enter an electoral period thanks to the legislative elections scheduled for February 16, 2020 and the presidential elections in October 2020. Historically, elections are moments of crystallization of tensions whether political, ethnic or social . This is due to the lack of consensus among political actors on thecredibility of the electoral process, which is a risk factor for conflicts. The same is true for the ethnicization of debates, a phenomenon that has grown steadily in recent decades with the immediate consequence of the strengthening of ethnocentrism and the withdrawal of identity. Unfortunately, media and social media often serve asrelay to the hateful, ethnocentric and violent speeches pronounced by certain actors of the political scene and the partisans. Harmful speeches, which contribute to exacerbate the culture of community violence, intolerance, as well as the spirit of defiance towards the security services which are considered as "enemies" to be cut down by the young impliedThe role of the media can be a driver of conflict due to certain commissions and omissions in the exercise of their function (inaccurate and biased reporting, a preference for events and personalities rather than for problems, misrepresentation of facts or stories and lack ofsensitivity). Since electoral periods are the most favorable times for violence, the role of journalists remains very important for social tranquility. In addition, the press is one of the sectors whose attitude is monitored during elections, in the extent to which the media exert, on the one hand, a definite influence on public opinion and the electOn the other hand, peace and cohesion can be put to the test when the media contributes to the exacerbation of tensions and antagonisms. It is therefore necessary to set up a capacity building mechanism for journalists (radio, TV, press), young girls and boys bloggers who use social networks to sharetheir opinions on current topics.
