UN Women, based on the vision of equality enshrined in the United Nations Charter, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; women`s empowerment; and achieving equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian actionand violence and security. Violence against women is both a cause and a consequence of HIV / AIDS infection. For a large majority of women, the violence suffered resulted in HIV-AIDS infection. For others, for the simple reason tested positive HIV, are victims and prone to any form of stigma and discrimination, sodoubly victim of violence. One in five women have been victims of violence, including sexual harassment at a young age, specifically during their teenage years. At the origin of this problem, recognized imbalances of power men and women in society. This societal and transversal problem deserves an urgent andto reduce gender gaps in order to contribute to gender equality. In Haiti, women make up more than half of the population living with HIV / AIDS. Of the 150, 000 adults living with HIV, 87, 000 (58%) are women. New infections among young women aged 15 to 24 are almost twice as many as young men00 new contaminations among young women for less than 1, 000 among young men. Only 37.3% of women and men aged 15 to 24 are able to correctly identify ways to prevent the sexual transmission of HIV AIDS. Through UBRAF funds, UN Women is collaborating in a joint initiative with UNAIDS, UNICEF, UNESCO, WHO / PAHO, UNFPA, WFP, ILO and UNDP to take into account the regional dimensions of the HIV epidemic taking into account country priorities, and to make a substantive contribution to regional processes while influencing global dialogue.
