Description : To achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, they will need to be mainstreamed and owned—in every neighborhood, community, and city. It will also require an unprecedented mobilization of knowledge, resources, and partnerships. Against this background, the Decade for Action to deliver the SDG`s by 2030 will formally launch in September, 2020. The Decade for Action will focus on three levels: global, national and local, with Local2030 envisioned as the coordinating mechanism for local SDG action. Implementation of the 2030 Agenda by national governments alone will not achieve results at the pace and scale needed to effectively deliver the SDG`s by 2030. It will be necessary to mobilize local and regional governments, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and community-based organizations, which in many countries hold the competencies required for on-the-ground delivery of the SDGs in the communities and among the people in greatest need across the world. However, local governments face significant challenges in their efforts to raise awareness about and implement the SDGs—for example with respect to a lack of finance and evidence-based data. Against this background, the proposed project would result in the world`s first local SDG implementation baseline, which aims to measure awareness, uptake, extent of SDG alignment and data availability at the local level.
