Description : BACKGROUND
The Door to Asia Designer-in-Residence Program of The Japan Foundation is an innovative cultural initiative that brings together international designers and local artisan communities to co-create heritage-inspired contemporary products. In its implementation in the Philippines, the program will be carried out in collaboration with the Department of Tourism Region IV-A (CALABARZON) and the creative towns of Lumban and Paete in Laguna, two communities known for their centuries-old craftsmanship. The residency became a dynamic platform for cultural exchange, design innovation, and creative tourism development, strengthening the value of local crafts while guiding artisans toward new market opportunities.
