Background

As part of the transition of UNICEF website to the new platform that requires engaging content on UNICEF-s programmes. The Advocacy Partnership and Communication section has undertaken stocktaking of existing content for each of UNICEF Myanmar programmes. In the process, it has come to the attention of the section that education related content is minimal and there is a need to produce a compelling story on the different output of the sector. In line with this, the Education Section has identified Early Childhood Intervention (ECI), Non-formal Middle School Education (NFME) and School-based In-service Teacher Education also known as SITE to be documented.

Regarding the method of production, it was agreed to produce photo stories on the NFME and SITE and produce a video and feature story on ECI with the angle of the capturing the progress of the programme that provides support for children in their natural environment either at home or at inclusive preschools, where parents and other caregivers can easily access services and trained personnel can make regular home visits.

In this context, the Advocacy, Partnerships and Communication Sections seeks an experienced English language professional writer to document the three programmes and produce two human interest stories and a feature article that can also be used to mobilize further resources for the programme.

Objectives of the Consultancy

To provide feature stories (two photo stories and one feature article) on NFME, SITE and ECI programmes to be used by UNICEF-s internal and external partners across various platforms.

Assignment Tasks and Expected Deliverables

Task 1:

Travel to UNICEF supported programmes - Work in the field will take maximum 5 days each for NFME and SITE photo stories and 10 days for ECI feature article (2 times travel to the field)

End Product/Deliverable 1:

Interview stake holders, identify characters for the stories

Task 2:

Deliver a story line for feedback to APC and Education sections

End product/ Deliverable 2:

Three distinct story lines that will be further developed into a full story

Task 3:

Provide full stories for the three programmes with captions of photos included - 2 days of post-production time for NFME and SITE photo story and three days of post-production day for ECI feature article

End product/Deliverable 3:

· Photo story on NFME

· Photo story on SITE

· Feature article on ECI

Qualification and specialized knowledge/experience required for the assignment:

· Myanmar national, able to travel without a need for travel authorization

· Degree in either English language, journalism or communication

· Minimum of four years of progressively responsible professional experience in English writing, journalism, communication, public relations or other related field using excellent analytical, research and writing skills.

· Experience with writing feature/ human interest stories is highly desirable.

· Experience working with NGOs or UN agencies.

· Previous experience reporting and writing on UN programmes would be an advantage.
