Background

In January 2018, the Peacebuilding Fund (PBF) approved a project to boost the average sector for peace and stability in Guinea-Bissau.

This project aims to make a timely, strategic and integrated intervention in the media sector to ensure that professionals and institutions are better prepared and equipped to make sectoral advances, promote the accountability of public figures and defend against counterattacks and dynamics of instrumentalization that destabilize and erode the central role that journalism plays in democratic systems.

Among others, the project supports the review of the legal framework of the media sector and aims to support sector associations to participate in this discussion and to design a lobbying and advocacy strategy to advocate for a better financing model for the sector in Guinea-Bissau and working conditions for journalists.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the UNIOGBIS Public Information Unit, the GMP, in coordination with the Project Steering Committee, and the legal adviser the Consultant will:

Required Skills and Experience

Qualification:

· Masters in Journalism, Political Science, Communication, Law, Media Law, Ethics and Deontology, Sociology, or other relevant area. (the years of experience in conjunction with Degree may be considered instead of the Master's Degree)
