Tender Details
Tenders are invited for Local Language Expert Consultant UNFPA-South Sudan ( Open for South Sudanese National Only).
Purpose of Study:
The 2010 South Sudan Household Health Survey (SHHS) reported the following Safe Motherhood indicators
• Total Fertility Rate (TFR): 7.5 children per woman
• Contraceptive Prevalence Rate (CPR): 4.5% for all methods; 1.7% for modern methods
• Ante-natal Care (ANC): 40% of pregnant women received ANC from skilled providers; but only 17% attained 4 or more visits
• Delivery: 19% of deliveries were assisted by skilled health providers
It is believed that socio-cultural factors as one of many demand side factors play significant influence on use and non-use of safe motherhood services, including family planning in South Sudan. There are also some supply side factors that affect and sustain use of safe motherhood services. There is therefore need for rigorous study to determine how theses factors come into play so that appropriate social and behavior change strategies can be designed to address the determinants of the use and non-use.
UNFPA is supporting the Ministry of Health to carry out a national study on determinants of use and non-use of safe motherhood services in South Sudan. The study will use qualitative method to investigate the determinants of utilization of Safe Motherhood services in South Sudan; and to understand the reasons behind these and other concerns with respect to Safe Motherhood from individual, family, community and institutional perspectives.
For purposes of this study, Safe Motherhood services shall be addressed in the four main phases of the reproductive health life cycle: preconception/contraception; pregnancy; delivery/birth; and postnatal/newborn. The study results will guide policy-making, programming for Safe Motherhood service delivery, monitoring and evaluation at national and sub-national levels. The results will also be used in designing a programme for social and behavior change communication to address individual and contextual positive and negative antecedent factors to Safe Motherhood service utilization.
