Description : As part of UNHCR`s role in ensuring the protection of refugees, the organization supports states in realizing Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Target 16.9 of Legal Identity for all by 2030. It liaises closely with states in issuing individual Identity Cards to refugees, which attest to their identity and status on states` territories, thereby guaranteeing protecting from refoulement, arbitrary arrest and detention.
At the national, regional and global levels, UNHCR has increased its engagement with states by undertaking to standardize equipment and related consumables that are used in the production of refugees` Identity Cards.
