Tender Details

Tenders are invited for International Consultancy -a Regional Adolescent Focused Analysis on Adolescent Girl’s Nutrition and Health and Nutrition in WCAR

UNICEF works in some of the world’s toughest places, to reach the world’s most disadvantaged children. To save their lives. To defend their rights. To help them fulfill their potential.

Across 190 countries and territories, we work for every child, everywhere, every day, to build a better world for everyone.

And we never give up.

For every child, a commitment

Background

Despite positive economic growth since 2000, between 2000 and 2017, the prevalence of stunting among children in West and Central Africa declined very slowly, from 41.1% to 33.5% and the absolute number of stunted children actually increased, from 22.8 to 28.9 million. This is an increase of more than 26%, even as the global number has decreased by 24%.

Addressing the regional situation and trends of undernutrition is a major concern to UNICEF West and Central Africa Regional Office. Hence, stunting has been prioritized as one of the 8 key results for children (KRCs) in the ROMP 2018-2021. To accelerate stunting reduction and reach the KRC#2 objective, as well as enhance the nutrition and health of adolescent girl, there is an urgent need to sharpen adequate policies/plans on comprehensive adolescent girl nutrition in the region

How can you make a difference?

Objectives

The overall purpose of the assignment is to use a pooled data set of all Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) and Multi Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS) that exist for the UNICEF West and Central Africa region to answer a series of questions related to the health and nutrition of adolescent girls.

Scope of work

Human resources in the nutrition section have improved. However, the specificity of priority tasks assigned to the consultant requires that resources are outsourced to help out on the issue of health and nutrition of adolescent girls. Investigations include the following aspects, including the status of undernutrition and anaemia in adolescent girls in West and central Africa, the socio demographic determinants of adolescent’s undernutrition and anaemia, the determinants, health and nutrition consequences of early marriage and pregnancy, the specific patterns of HIV/AIDS risk among adolescent girls
