Description : 1. Background

Early Childhood Development (ECD) is one of the flagships programmes of UNICEF Rwanda. With different interventions implemented in collaboration with a variety of partners, the Communication, Advocacy and Partnerships (CAP) Section supports the social mobilization and awareness raising on importance of early years of life, using different platforms.

Radio is one of the channels used for educating public on ECD. In partnership with the Rwanda Broadcasting Agency (RBA), Imbuto Foundation, National Early Childhood Development Programme (NECDP) and MIGEPROF as the lead Ministry, a weekly radio programme named Itetero is being produced and aired on Radio Rwanda once a week, with the repeated broadcast on the same week.

The first ever radio programme targeting young children and their parents is designed in an interactive, participatory way, to attract both children`s and parents` attention.

This weekly programme, created with and for children, takes a unique approach to stimulate children at young age to develop their cognitive, social, and emotional skills, while they follow the stories of animal drama and family drama in their native setting. Over 187 episodes have been developed and broadcast to date.

2. Objective of the Consultancy

The technical support will help RBA and UNICEF`s CAP team to generate creative ideas and stories, which will guide the development of content for the next episodes of the Itetero radio programme.
