Description : Background
The Malaysian Health Technology Assessment Section (MaHTAS) is a section within the Ministry of Health (MOH), Malaysia, was established in August 1995 to provide input for formulation of policies and/or decision making related to health technologies based on scientifically rigorous evidence. MaHTAS was given the mandate to conduct health technology assessment (HTA), mini-HTA and rapid assessment on new and existing health technologies. The MaHTAS is given the responsibility to identify and, subject to evaluation, encourage adoption of new or novel devices and diagnostic technologies with potential to improve patient health outcomes and/or to drive efficiencies in use of health-service resources. MaHTAS has been developing HTA reports. Only few countries have developed medical technology guidance such as Canada and NICE in the United Kingdom (UK). MaHTAS would like to understand the core principles of NICE guidance and develop medical technology guidance similar to NICE in the UK.
Purpose/Specific Objective of the Activity
To provide support on development of medical technology guidance based on health technology assessments or technology review reports and its implementation and provide training for MOH officers on the steps to develop medical technology guidance
